So is the Buddha Tooth Relic authentic or not?

Caught the channel 8 news earlier and was still confused over this issue.Apparently, dental expertises (aka dentists.. haa) have identified the Buddha Tooth Relic to be similiar to that of a herbivorous animal instead of a human being. This has striked a commotion among some donors who contributed money + gold to build the Buddha Tooth Temple for storing the relic. The monk (okie.. i duno how to address him) in charge refused to let ppl send the Buddha Tooth for testing of DNA.

    Hmm.

Okie. Initial thoughts.I thought the monk refused to send the tooth for testing because he was afraid it would really show that the tooth belonged to a herbivorous animal. And then that would spark off many more debates about how the temple is cheating money, etc etc... and then lead to another commotion like the "Da Vinci Code" did...that leads to ppl questioning that Jesus Christ is a human and not a god after all. So on and so forth...

In this case, Buddha would be said to be non-existent. Else, it would probably lead to conclusions tt Buddha is/was not of human form.

    Right..

It could lead to something that would probably question ppl in their belief in Buddhism. I'm a free-thinker.. but well, that's my thoughts. For me, religion is built based on beliefs whether or not the so-called gods are existent or not. But for true believers/religious ppl, it would smash their trust and faith in one.

Hmmm...It was mentioned in the news that the monk mentioned he rejected the testing of DNA since there was no DNA sample of Buddha to compare with, so he saw no point in doing it and in turn, spoiling the relic.

That, I have to agree. Caught a documentary on Discovery Channel earlier called "Uncovering Egypt's Lost Queen" which speaks of how archaelogists++ uncovered the existence of a queen whom was made to appear to never exist in Egypt's history. It speaks of how they piece clue after clue together, to identify the mummy of the lost queen. If you come across this, pls watch it cos it's really very... exciting!

In the show, they tried to piece the DNA pattern of previous kings together with the four mummies (who could have belonged to the lost queen) and compare. But in the end, the method proved to be useless for DNA deteriorates too along with time. Eventually, the lost queen was found through a tooth(which was identified to have belong to her) through a dental which was found to fit one of the mummies' erm...dental records (they X-rayed the mummies for their dental records).

    ok. my english sux.

Anyway, yeah, i'm glad they found the right queen. Though why she was wiped out from Egypt's history still remain a mystery. Hmm..

Okie.. i drifted. But you get the idea.
    1. DNA of the relic cannot prove it belongs to Buddha.
    2. Could prove it belongs to an animal.
    3. But then we wouldn't know if Buddha lost the tooth when he was present in a animal form or something.

Hmm..In the first place, why did he lose a tooth? I cannot imagine Buddha having a toothache. OOps =p (Paiseh..Buddha)

Or perhaps, in the ancient scrolls, Buddha had appeared on Earth in physical form and when he left, the tooth remained while the body decayed. That I do not know for I have not found out how the relic even came about or what it represented to the monks. You know, One mystery leads to another..Oh.All in all. I hope to know what really happened though.Perhaps, we should start filming a documentary called "Uncovering the Lost Tooth of Buddha" =p. I would definitely watch it.

Hee..Gotta go...feels so sleepy in this weather
